The concept and craft
The Kurbits tradition from Dalarna is known for its bold lines and mythic storytelling, wrapping naturally around the speaker’s iconic shape.
Designed internally by David Samuelson as a custom gift for a colleague with roots in Dalarna, this unique piece combined Swedish folk art with clean product design. Flowing painted lines, a traditional Kurbits color palette, custom fret piping, wooden knobs, and turned copper feet brought Swedish heritage to life, turning a familiar object into something rare and culturally loaded.
Studio execution and process
I led the studio setup, lighting, photography, and final retouching. The focus was capturing clean shots that brought out the hand-painted details and material accents.
What started as a farewell gift became an internal blueprint. Proof that we could concept, build, and shoot custom work completely in-house.
The Takeaway
Curves of Kurbits was a fun sidequest that brought together a historic, unexpected pattern with a familiar object.
Managing the direction, photography, and post-production solo established a clean approach for documenting custom pieces, proving what we could pull off entirely in-house.
